Orangutans in danger

The world's entire orangutan population resides on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra. In approximately 200,000 orangutans inhabited those islands. The current estimates are for a population as low as 30,000. Destruction of the rainforest is the primary cause. With the major forest fires burning in Indonesia even more habitat is being destroyed. Many of the forest fires are set deliberately by palm oil plantation owners to clear the forest. Read this article for additional info and check the link to PBS in the title for more information.
