Indoor Gardening and Energy Drinks

I found on Aaron-n-Jen.com a three part video on indoor gardening. They found the videos at Garden Girl TV which is a pretty interesting site.

One solution to the issue of rising food prices and minimizing the environmental impact of agriculture is to grow your own food. I plan on trying to follow these indoor gardening experiments and see how it works out. Maybe I'll find somewhere to set one up at my place.

Also, I did some reading today about kale and making your own energy drinks with a juicer. Apparently kale has powerful antioxidant properties and is anti-inflammatory. It is also high in vitamins K, A, and C. I found a recipe for an energy drink in the Globe and Mail written by Chef David Lee who is co-owner and executive chef at Splendido in Toronto, Canada. I found the article online but I'm not sure if it will be a valid link for long as many newspaper sites lock content after a period of time. If it doesn't work I'll add the recipe in the comments section later. I plan on buying a juicer in the near future as I'm tired of buying 1 liter containers of Bolthouse Farms stuff. We really like their products but they are just a little pricey for the amount we drink. I figure a juicer will pay for itself in a year. I just have to find the right one.

I might be ambitious since it's the start of a new year with plans of an indoor garden and a home made energy drink. The drinks I can do but the indoor garden is a stretch due to space. I'll let you know how it works.

from www.yesmagazine.com:

"At Start Now Farm in Bremerton, Washington, Jean Schanen and Glenn Huff grow enough produce to feed themselves and to stock their stall at the local farmers’ market. Their acreage? A city lot plus the roof space on their garage, carport, and house.

Interested? www.startnow.org"

how much space do you have? what quantity of juice do you plan to drink? how many different plants do you want to consume?

containers are always a good way to go.

aloe plants can provide a salve and nourishment, are very beneficial and pretty easy to grow.

I'm all for green blog.
I saw on tv the other day an indoor gardening grower. Go to this link and check it out...http://www.aerogrow.com/

Thinking about getting this. If I do, I'll let you know how well it works.
We already grow our own herbs indoors and do seedlings.
Finding a big used fish tank with a heat lamp can do wonders for year-round gardening indoors.
Keep us informed on this study.

I just received a juicer for Christmas. It is a basic model but it performs wonderfully.

So far the best thing about juicing is just making up my own recipes. I think you should just go ahead and get one. Once you start juicing, you will wonder why you waited.

Great Blog site. I bought a good jucer at a swap meet for $5. The biggest issue I have with juicers is the clean-up time. If you are juicing for a large crew its not as bad if work load is shared. But juicing for one is a bit much.
I am currently working on a hand crank model for green power.

Kale's fantastic! I mix kale, spinach, cilantro, and other greens to some REAL apple juice and blend. ITS DELICIOSO.

Try it.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions. I am just doing a little research as I plan on making the juicer a big part of my diet so I want something that is easy, reliable and makes it right. As for the gardening I may be relocating so I'll hold off for now.

Your blog is great, keep up the good blogging! To date, I've only grown a few outdoor edibles, but my houseplant collection is huge. I received an Aerogrow for Christmas with a basil kit, so I will soon be embarking on a quest for indoor-grown food. Care to compare notes?
