Eat Your Lawn

This video is under 3 minutes and highlights a project on converting lawns to vegetable gardens. Look at these statistics from the EPA and see how much actually goes into lawn care in the U.S. If that was converted to productive gardens imagine the global impact?

I heard about a new company called "EcoSMART" and decided to do a little research. They apparently have a line of insecticides and insect repellent at select Wal-Marts that are completely non-toxic and safe around children and pets! Anyone heard anything/tried this product???

I don't know too much about that product. I think like a lot of new products it may be trial and error. I did look at a Scott's non-selective weed killer today that is environmentally friendly. It think it said it was 62.5g/L of Acetic Acid. You may know acetic acid as vinegar. Household vinegar is unlikely the same concentration but I'm guessing it is just highly concentrated vinegar. What I do around my place is use things like vinegar and make my own compost. Cheaper but may require more work on your part. I think until the hype wears off the green frenzy we won't be able to separate the wheat from the chaff.
