Donate your old electronics

Donating old electronics to charitable causes is an excellent way to reduce the amount of electronics ending up in landfill sites. Most of our gadgets that we consider obsolete after we buy new ones are still useful. Old computers can be rebuilt with Linux and still perform a majority of tasks such as word processing or email. Cell phones can be donated to women's shelters so they can be used in the event of an emergency.

Electronics contain many toxic chemicals and if they cannot be reused should be disposed of properly. Beware that you do not send your old electronics to recyclers who simply ship the goods to developing countries and have children dismantle them. This article explains the problem in Canada and what can be done.
