No Dirty Gold

The No Dirty Gold campaign is trying to raise awareness around the mining practices of gold at the consumer level. For example, they are highlighting the amount of cyanide used to produce gold and how that impacts the areas surrounding the mines. The television EcoTrip recently had a show covering the same issue and examined how much it really takes to make a gold ring.

The environmental damage from some gold mining is astounding. On top of it all some of the mining in the U.S. takes place on land that has disputed ownership. Makes you wonder if the jewelry is worth it.
