Renewable energy, piracy and Google
This story on Freakonomics really made think. Google is contemplating moving server farms out to international waters and run them from wave power. Several reasons come in to play such as taxes and government regulation. Having them powered by wave power is really clever. I guess they would also be at risk from pirates but I personally feel the risk is remote. I'm not sure about all the legal and ethical issues surrounding it. As bloggers and active internet participants it could be a big deal since it could change how the internet is run. Also, if it works for Google who else will move their operations out there? The "middle of nowhere" probably doesn't have many rules...
