Rotten Tomatoes

The recent tomato recall speaks volumes about the methods used in food production. If there hasn't been a good reason to switch to local or organic produce this is. I haven't followed this story with any interest because I'm getting tired of these things. Industrial food production is a huge problem for us. Not enough people in North America are producing any food for personal consumption and we rely on a global, industrial food system. The impact on the environment of food production (fertilizer, pesticides etc) and our health with processing and additives and unsafe handling. We've made ourselves rely on a system that provides food at a large cost in other areas. Some arguments have come out against organic because it could use more resources to produce the same amount of food as the current industrial production. We have created another serious problem that is linked to our energy problem. We will have to be creative to solve these problems.

I'd like to close by apologizing for my infrequent posts lately. I've been quite busy around the house lately and don't have enough hours in the day.

Guilty, not enough hours in a day and have you ever tried to grow and raise all you eat? It's a heck of a lot of work and most folks don't have time for it these days.

If you have a job it's just easier to buy your food. And it is so cheap, you can't produce most food as cheap as you can buy it. Not if you count your labor and what you think it is worth.
