Buy Less and Buy Smart

Buying things and being environmentally friendly are generally at odds with each other. Some of this is to do with the products that are available and some is due to our lack of knowledge about what is available. We also feel that these two things, consumption and the environment, cannot be reconciled and we cannot buy our way out of environmental damage and other problems we have caused.

An interview with author Diane MacEachern really puts a lot of this into perspective. Her number one thing is to buy less in the first place. She also emphasizes making green choice for the environment and for yourself. The power of a lot of people making a few changes is what we need to keep in mind. I have not heard of her before doing some reading last night but her books are now on my list.
