Silicon is in short supply. Growing demand for microchips and solar panels has created a shortage. As a result, solar power projects may be in jeopardy as prices increase. The Financial Times article provides great information about the additional impacts this may have.
The economy and the environment are linked in so many ways. This turn of events is something that one may not normally consider a consequence of alternative energy. I find it ironic that solar panels to generate electricity are competing with electronics that will likely consume it.
