Green Designs

LEED is a standard in green building construction. It basically rates a building in several categories to determine the sustainability of the building in several areas. The Solaire is a 27 storey residential tower in New York City that is LEED Gold certified. A write up in the Globe and Mail provides a little backstory on the building.

This type of construction will be imperative if we will ever achieve the recently important "energy independence". Residential sustainability is an area where significant advances can be made with changes in construction and consumer behavior. Technological advances will make it easier for new construction but also make retrofitting more affordable and achieve greater results.
