Coal power continues

The Canadian provinces of Ontario and British Columbia will be using coal fired electricity generating plants. In Ontario four coal fired plants will remain open despite pledges to close them. If they are closed supply interruptions may result.

British Columbia will be new to coal fired plants despite promises of environmental sustainability by the political leadership.

Solar energy and distributed generation of electricity will need to become the norm to reduce the impact of electricity generation on the environment. Hydro-electric projects are not always the answer, in my opinion. Several projects across Canada, such as James Bay, have had significant impacts on the environment. By enabling households/individuals to generate their own power and spread it through the existing electrical grid we could minimize supply disruptions and reduce the need for expensive, harmful projects such as coal or nuclear plants.
